The Costco Connection
The Costco Connection – The October edition of The Costco Connection included an article entitled "Global Eradication of Polio?". The two column article included a photo of a Rotarian administering the oral polio vaccine and went on to share with readers Rotary's involvement with the polio campaign since the 1980's. It included references to the current
campaign spearheaded by the matching program of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The article mentioned that John Matthews, Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Costco, was active in Rotary when the campaign began. John is currently a Rotary District Governor in the Pacific Northwest and stated, "Now that we've almost reached the goal to eradicate polio, the takeaway is that we are all a lot smarter today about how to tackle tough global health issues . . ." This article is a classic example of how Rotary public relations efforts get the word out about our organization and what it accomplishes.
